Tara Susman-Peña is Senior Research Officer for the Internews Center for Innovation and Learning. She is an anthropologist and is passionate about Human Centered Research and Design. Tara is the director of Internews’ Media Map Project, which began in 2010 as a two-year study examining the evidence for the impact of media on development; making global media data more open and interactive; and using both traditional and innovative research methods to understand how donors have impacted the development of the media in six countries over two decades. Media Map research was widely recognized as groundbreaking by the media development community, and Tara is leading its redesign and iteration. Before joining Internews, she worked in Audience Insight and Research at NPR, where she managed the online listener panel and qualitative research initiatives. Prior to NPR, her years of commercial market research experience focused on branding, video ethnography, product and service development, and communication strategy in the media, technology, health, food, fashion, and automotive industries. Tara has a master’s degree in socio-cultural anthropology from Columbia University, and is fluent in Spanish.
